.saving fabric from piling.

So a little sneak peak of what's to come on the blog here! Starting August 14th, I'll be featuring my personal favorite back to fall essentials -- one a day, for fifteen days. Some will come from my own wardrobe. Others I will wish to be in my wardrobe. Keep your eyes open and be ready!

As for this week, a few tips on keeping clothes looking new...

Clothing is expensive and fashion styles recycle through time. So why just get rid of clothes when they can be saved for the future! Something I've come to hate is piling fabric. The first way to prevent this is a high quality fabric. But that's not always gonna happen. So a few ideas on how to get rid of the piling?

1. Fabric Shaver:: Try this one from Conair! Pretty much just shave your clothes (careful not to snag the fabric) removing all fuzz and pills.

2. Sweater Saver:: This removes annoying pilling on your sweaters, coats and blankets and extend the life of your clothes. Just lightly rub the block on the fabric to remove any piling and fuzz, then wash the block clean!

Just a couple ideas...

Here's today's outfit!

.art in the park finds.

What a wonderful day that I'm excited to update you on! My day was fun. Yes I did have to scrub the shower down and clean the toilet in there, but despite that fantastic!

Started the day off running errands to craft stores and grocery stores with my mom. Following that cleaned the bathroom to 80's Pandora playlist while wearing my Zebra apron. Makes cleaning so much more fun! =) Following that I begin sewing a skirt! My first real sewing project! I'll post it when it's complete!

This evening I hung out with Mon! We wandered around "Art in the Park" and looked at all the cool booths. I love looking at people's art and work. So creative and inspiring. I scored these grape soda cap earings (which remind me of the movie UP, a personal favorite) and this cuff earing. Both of which I bought from their creator, which I think is really cool.

This is the cuff earing...
After the "Art in the Park" show we rode bikes along Columbia Park Trail and sat and talked a while. A fun way to spend our last hang out night for the summer!

Today's outfit obviously needed to be pretty casual. So here we go...

.floral and pearls.

So today I ended up working an eight hour shift instead of having a day off but it was a good day! I got to shop and talk to several of my favorite customers, who always remind me of why I do this job.

Today's outfit was the result of wanting to wear this girly top, yet be comfortable! So... wa-laa! I love this top! The style is very slimming and the material is extremely comfortable!
Tomorrow should be my day off and I look forward to sewing a couple skirts! =)

Goodnight!

.saving closet space.

Have you seen these hangers? I started using them last year and they saved so much space in my closet! So this year I decided to buy two boxes of 50 from Costco of them and finish off the closet with them! The velvet hangers are thin and shirts do not fall off of them. Though even with the hangers, my closet is still entirely packed. I don't know how I'm going to take all my clothes to school in the fall like I did last year. This will be a task....

I'm also trying a eight-hour wearing lip gloss! I tried lip stain the other day and wasn't impressed. It ended up making my lips look blotchy and that is by far from what I want. So I stopped by Sephora today and bought "LORAC: 8 Hour Long-Wearing Lip Color & Ultra Glossy Top Coat." I tried it out when I got home and loved it!

As for today's outfit::
Goodnight!

.saving oldies but favorites.

Today I spent the entire day shopping for clothes and things for my dorm for the fall! What a busy day! Made stops at two Targets, Sports Authority, Two Fred Meyers, Costco, of course Red Robin, Maurices, JCPennies, Shopko, and Victoria's Secret! A successful day spending too much money on things that I actually needed! I loved having the mom/daughter time too!

I will be creating a long back to fall basics shopping blog post within the next two weeks! So keep your eyes wide open!

Ever get frustrated when you buy Eye Shadow duos and run out of one color first? Then you are forced to throw out the extra shadow and buy a whole new duo! A tricky trade the make up companies have come up with! I didn't want to waste shadow this time, so I decided to buy individual colors that are same/similar to that of my missing color in my duo. It's a great way to not waste eye shadow as well as save money because you are using all of the duo. For example::

Another way to make things last is by fixing damaged heals that have been worn down! I found these replacements for the spike of the heal at Target.

Today's outfit is simple. Shopping outfits need to be simple because you are in and out of the fitting room. Flip flops make it easy to try on pants and new shoes!

Goodnight friends!

Today I completed my New hire forms for Ann Taylor! I'm getting excited for the new position and can't wait to start the job! I'll be going up for training August 14th! =)

Work, coffee, and hanging out at home.

.fashion in a small town.

The other day a guy from Seattle came in shopping for an outfit for his girlfriend's birthday. I helped him pick out an outfit and while helping him, we talked about fashion in a small town. There is something different about being bold in your style in Tri-Cities and being bold in your style living in Seattle! In Seattle, you can pretty much try anything and get away with it (though I don't agree with everything people are trying haha =) ) Whereas today I wore my maxi dressed and mixed it up by wearing a tank tide to the side over the top. I got so many looks though and felt almost overdressed with my casual maxi dress as I ran errands today though. Something different about fashion in a smaller city...

In my opinion though -- this outfit worked great to tie together my day of church, errands, work, and a pot luck dinner with the work girls! A great day overall!

.sequin v tank.

You'll be happy to know that I'm currently charging both of my cameras! Never getting to charging my Nikon, I went to use my small point and shoot camera! Come to find out... that one is dead too! So today's outfit post is sadly taken myself with my phone!

My best friend Kaile leaves for Australia tomorrow! So excited for her! Spent the day with her as she finished packing, running errands to get the final necessities, printing her ticket, and having dinner with her family! I think I'm more excited for her then she's excited! It will be a great experience and I'll be praying for her every day!

Today was a warm summer day outfit!

.bringing nature inside decorating.

My camera died and I didn't realize it... so no outfit post today! Sorry bout that! I will post this interior decorating idea that I have seen everywhere recently and I'm excited to try this fall! I was reading my magazine I got ("Small Room Decorating") and was reminded of the trend! Taking several small tree branches and placing them inside of cases on a table. Love the look!

.feathers.

I'm sure many of you have seen the featherlocks! Feathers that are a twist on hair extensions! One to three feathers are gathered together into a round clasp that is clamped onto several strands of hair. The feathers usually last about 6 weeks and can be put back in after!

They can come in different sizes, lengths and colors!

This past April I had three featherlocks put in my hair but near the beginning of the summer they fell out! So I've been looking for a place to put them back in in the Tri-Cities for some time now. I finally came across Bella Luna Salon in Kennewick located next to the DMV.

I had mine put back in, added two feathers to that extension, and also bought a clip of feathers that I can easily take in and out of my hair this fall when I go to work and don't necessarily want to be wearing my feathers! Love them! And excited to have them finally back in my hair! I don't color my hair so it's an easy way to have some fun with my hair! This is the clip::

.bright summer days & cool summer nights.

Today was a lazy summer day! Spent the day fixing clothes, scrapbooking, making dinner for the family and hanging out! It's been a while since I've scrapbooked! I didn't really have the time my senior year of high school and there is no room to pack scrapbook stuff in my dorm room!

This is today's outfit::

.DIY:: felt craspedia.

Hello!
Back from vacation and ready to have a vacation from vacation! =) Ever feel like that? The past four days I spent at a Lake cabin with my boyfriend and his family at Lake Pend Oreille! It was beautiful and extremely relaxing! Lazy days spent hanging out, playing games, eating s'mores, taking the chair lift to the top of Schweitzer resort to sit in amazement at God's creation, and a day at Silverwood! Did I mention I caught three fish? Yesterday my parents joined in on the fun with kayaking, dinner, and sitting in the sunshine on the dock! A great way to spend the week! My man Tim is so incredibly encouraging, thoughtful and strong that it made it a truly awesome week!

Kicked it back into gear right away though with work today! I can't believe I only have two and a half weeks left before I leave for RFKC (a camp for foster kids that I'm a counselor at).

I don't have an outfit post today, but a do have an awesome DIY that I found! The DIY came from www.designsponge.com! She always has some really creative DIY projects! I thought this one was cute!

DIY:: felt craspedia

Materials
  • mustard yellow wool roving
  • one bowl of hot, hot, hot as you can stand water
  • one bowl of cold, cold, cold as you can bear water
  • cloth-covered stem wire (from the floral section of craft stores — I used 20 gauge)
Instructions
1. The whole process for one ball should only take a couple minutes. First, tear off a piece of your wool roving like you would tear off a piece of cotton candy. You want ragged ends. Remember that your wool ball will shrink a bit during the felting process.

2. Next, place a small drop of soap (I have used both hand soap and dish soap successfully) in your dry hands and also rub a tiny bit onto the piece of wool roving.

3. Then, roughly shape the wool into a ball before dipping it gently in the hot water — you want it a tad wet, not completely drenched.

4. Very, very gently roll the wool roving between your palms like you would a clay ball. At this stage, don’t squish the wool any harder than you would a baby chick. Then dunk the roughly shaped ball into the cold water (this time you can soak it) and keep rolling. Then dunk the ball into the hot again, then the cold, rolling between dunks. The change in temperature helps “shock” the wool fibers and is part of the felting process. Plus, you want to rinse out the soap.

5. As the wool ball becomes firmer (and thus smaller), you can apply more pressure. Your ball is finished when it is firmer to the touch and feels “dense.” You can see in the next photo how much smaller my ball has become.

6. Leave the felted wool ball(s) to dry for 24 to 48 hours. The dry felted-wool ball should have a slight bounce to it when dropped on a countertop. I recommend making a few as a “test” before diving in to a dozen or so for an arrangement.

7. Once your felted-wool ball is dry, simply pierce it with the end of the floral wire, and twist and wiggle the wire into the felted ball until it almost pops out the other side. Your ball should be dense enough to grip the wire. I flung my finished “Billy Buttons” around, and no felted balls went flying. Then bend the wire as you please, making droopy flowers or more rigid ones. Bend the wire gently — you don’t want any kinks, just soft bends.

.gone camping.

I'll be out for a few days and won't be up and blogging again till Saturday!! I promise to have some good posts for you though when I get back! I doubt you want my camping outfit posts... those aren't quite fashion blog worthy! But for now, keep on smiling!

.couleur de clou.

Today was another 8 hour day at work! A good day indeed, though diffidently tiring! Decided to light up my day with some new nail colors and a Applebee's half price appetizer date with the best friend, Kaile! I love the new colors I got! Not familiar with this brand, but going to give it a shot. They were buy two get one free at FredMeyer. The brand is "Sinful Colors Professional." I loved all their color options! This is what I picked today::

1) Tokyo Pearl::
2) Nail Junkie::

3) Oledia::

Love the new colors! And excited to paint my nails! I'll let you know how the brand is!

So today's outfit::

{necklace:: forever 21 // Over sized sweater:: Maurices // Jeans:: Silver Strait Jeans // Motorcycle boots:: Vanity}

.hired.

Woo!!! So guess what!

I got the call informing me that I got that job! I'm officially the Sales Lead at Ann Taylor in Bellevue, WA! I'm really excited! It sounds like the perfect opportunity and exactly what I am looking for in a job! Truly a huge blessing and an answer to prayer! So... you can expect to see Ann Taylor clothes slowly appear in my blog! For now, Maurice's clothes will continue to fill and overfill my closet!

Here is today's outfit! Several of my previous mix it up pieces used together! I found that while tucking in the silk shirt it tended to slip out easily because of the material. My solution? Considering the shirt has a long hem in the back, I used a clear elastic to gather extra fabric in a tail in the back of my shirt. I tucked in the front of the shirt and then the "tail." As a result, my shirt easily stayed tucked in all day! Easy fix.

.business time.

Today my mom and I drove to Seattle for my interview at Ann Taylor! It was really well and I'm excited for that! I love Ann Taylor's style of clothing and I would  love to work for the company! I find out the beginning of this next week what the next step is. I'll keep ya posted =)

So today's outfit had to be to the nine! It was interview time for an upper scale store! So I choose the classic high waist professional skirt, a top in a bright color with a black sweater, and my favorite strand of pearls that are three generations down to me! Granted to say, the outfit allowed me to walk in even more confident into the interview and I think that helped!

Sorry the picture's not to par but I hope you get the idea!

{pearls:: gift// ruffled tank:: target // skirt:: dress barn // heals:: Madden Girl}

I'm wanting to do an extended post... but 8 hours of driving today and tomorrow's eight hours of work is calling me to more sleep! have a wonderful night!

.the fourth and the sun.

Why hello my few faithful readers! Sorry I didn't blog yesterday! Got caught up in the festivities of the fourth! Anything exciting happen for you? My day was simple but sweet. Consisted of going to work, eating a delicious BBQ with the fam, and going to fireworks after a short photoshoot with the best friend! Ended the wonderful day with falling asleep under the stars. The day couldn't have  been any better -- even though I did work!

.thrifted lace and pearls.

Today was a wonderful day with my two best friends -- spent at the Columbia River relaxing in the sun, wading in the icy water and catching up! Also working on the tan of course under the sunny blue skies!

I've been dying to wear this skirt that I found at a thrift store but the right occasion hasn't let me where it! Since I didn't work today (didn't have to wear Maurices clothes) and I was going to church, I found it the right time to finally get this skirt in! I love the lace material over the light fabric - making for a very light skirt that can be worn now or this fall and winter. I'm not a huge fan of this shirt with the skirt, but I didn't have a top that better suited the skirt. So here's the completed look!

.DIY::home product.

So a little Do It yourself project! Glass cleaner! I know, not super exciting... but if you wear glasses or even need a basic surface cleaner this could save you some money! I spent a total of $3 for this DIY.

What you need::
-rubbing alcohol
-distilled water
-spray bottle

How you make it::
So easy I can combine the steps into one sentence! Combine 50/50 of distilled water and rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and wa-la!  Spray and wipe away from surface and there you go! Clear as can be!

Today was a work day! Wanted to pull the hair out of the face so I ended up with the side-do pinned up with bobby pins and kept with lots of hairspray! I liked the do!

I'm loving these looks as well::

The vintage 50s dos are soft and feminine and perfect for any occasion!

Todays outfit::

{crochet flower:: Maurices // Earings:: Maurices // Necklace:: Maurices // Sequin Tank:: Old Navy // Crochet Vest:: Mosimo // Strait Denim Jeans:: Silver Jeans // Sandals:: Maurices }

I hope you all have a good Sunday! If you're needing a good place to by an outfit for the fourth, stop by Maurices! I applied for a sales lead position at Ann Taylor in Bellevue for this fall and I'm really excited about the possibility of the position! Filled out the app, and it's in God's hands now. Excited to spend tomorrow with my two best friends! Have a great night!
